For instance I can remember a picture of a little girl in a black and white photo, but the coat she was wearing was bright pink. It was great moment to capture.

The high energy performances of rising country rock star, Candy Coburn, are starting to win her an ever increasing fan base. Fronting their own band is a dream of every beginner singer. So how can you front a band and develop your own band's own distinctive style of music and performance? How to at the same time developing your own individually unique singing style? How are you going to be distinguished and get noticed from those thousands of bands playing only cover versions of popular music and imitating their favourite bands and lead singers?

First thing to do is to view as many DVD performances of famous singers fronting their bands from the musical genre you have chosen as the forte of your band's music. Examine how distinctive and different they are from each other. Notice each band playing with their own style and song delivery. Take note of everyone's body language and what signals and vibes the famous bands and singers are sending out.

Let us take a look at some of these singers and bands. Take Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones for example. See how he pouts his lips and struts on stage cockily exuding sensual visuals and confident charisma at the same time. Those body language became his characteristics and singing charisma. Your band must know what you want and this must be communicated before every rehearsal and reinforced. Things like when you want to bring the song into a climax, when to bring it down to tug at audience heartstrings, when to pause to create a dramatic impact...etc

Invest a little moeny in your band by buying some good music sheets so that the band can play together as a team with the same music sheets and scores.If you leave your band members to play by ear, all the band members will interpret the songs in their own way and you would have lost alot of time and energy to get the band to play tightly together.

Therefore you need to work closely with your band members since as a lead singer, you are probably the band leader as well. You then must insist that the band play the keys that you are comfortable to sing in, stick to the musical arrangements and follow the effects of the songs you want to portray.

Once this is done, rehearse until the band and you are inseparable components of the song, then you are there! You are now ready to front a good band as a lead singer, get recognized as a singer and band leader of distinction.

Originally from Indonesia, most of the Batik material which is currently available is made in Bali. Batik is preceded by canting, which was in use by women in Java in Indonesia. Special copper caps are used to cover the cloth with wax on which batik is to be done. This cloth carries very intricate designs. Metallica tickets have been among the most-sought after concert tickets on the market for more than 20 years. Their first release, Kill 'Em All, was not a commercial success, but resulted in enough notice for the band that their next release, Ride the Lightning, caught the attention of major record labels, and a new 'star' was born on the music scene.

Since then, Metallica has released nine studio albums, and all of them went platinum. They were the first true 'heavy metal' band to enjoy huge commercial success, but with that came backlash from the 'underground' heavy metal scene, most of whom accused Metallica of 'selling out.'

The band remained steadfast in their focus, however, and the result of their labor has included seven Grammy Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, two American Music Awards and three Billboard Music Awards.

The Police are back on the road this year for the first time in two decades, in one of the most eagerly anticipated tours of recent years.

As one of the most definitive post-punk/early new-wave bands, The Police made their name in the late seventies with their distinctive punk-meets-pop-meets-reggae sound, while showing off a carefully contrived peroxide blonde look. The mix served them well as they produced a series of five successful albums before breaking up in 1984.

Comprising Sting (a.k.a. Gordon Sumner) on lead vocals and bass guitar, drummer Stewart Copeland, and lead guitarist Andy Summers, the trio took advantage of the growing medium of new musical videos and a general public weariness with punk and pop music. They began with a raw, punk-inspired power-pop sound, but evolved quickly into producing much more complex material, both musically and lyrically, allowing reggae and jazz influences to become increasingly apparent in their music.

In their seven years, they amassed five U.K. number 1 singles, four U.K. number 1 albums, with sales of Synchronicity going platinum eight times in the U.S., as well as hitting number 1 on both sides of the Atlantic. They are the recipients of two Brit awards and six Grammy's.

When you get started on your own you want your place to be unique, to represent your life and sense of style. A mixture of borrowed furniture and household items that don't match doesn't create a sense of style. This is the dilemma that faced our daughter when she moved into her first apartment. She was fortunate to be living with one of her friends, but they needed to furnish their home with style on a budget.

After they had settled in we were invited to their place for dinner. We were faced with the problem of what to get as a house-warming gift. We wanted our present to complement whatever style had already created. To decide on the best item we had to figure out what looks good, is practical for many uses and is cheap to buy. We came up with the idea of bamboo baskets after some thought. Our daughter had always liked bamboo and baskets like these could be incorporated into many d?cor styles.

When we arrived with the gift our daughter greeted us with laughter. We weren't sure whether this was a good sign or not. Once we had moved into the living room we could see then why our present was amusing. There were several other bamboo baskets set around the room. Along with the bamboo baskets they had also purchased grass mats to use as area rugs on the floors and bamboo placemats for the dining room table. Quite obviously they had decided to follow an oriental theme because the items needed to set this up were cheap, lightweight and easy to come across.

A tour around the apartment revealed that the theme had been used in all the other rooms. In her bedroom there were large bamboo baskets used as lamp stands and another used to place an alarm clock. They were also used in the closet for clothes storage and for use as a hamper.

The bathroom was the only area that still needed to be decorated. The gift basket we had brought was the first decorative item in the room. Like all the other rooms there would be many uses for a bamboo basket in this room. Our daughter mentioned that she would probably purchase more bamboo baskets like the one we got to set on the floor with extra towels.

The great idea about using bamboo for decoration is that she can use the material for almost any effect or purpose. It doesn't have to be limited to baskets. There is an assortment of furniture and accessories made from cane and bamboo, none of which will look out of place in an oriental themed residence.

So you've just bought a shiny new SLR camera huh? And a lens or two to go with it? That's great. Now all you have to do is learn how to use it. I'm assuming here you bought an SLR camera because you want to do a little bit more than take happy snaps at family events and holidays. So for those new to photography as anything more than that, this article aims to give you a little background on the basics of exposure to help you on your way.

Shutter speed

There are two elements to creating a 'correct exposure'. These are aperture, and shutter speed, which we will look at first. When you press the trigger button on your camera to take a picture, it opens a set of sliders, like opening a window. How long it stays open, depends on how you set the shutter speed. Shutter speeds can range from extremely fast (ie 1/8000 of a second), to very slow (30 seconds), or even infinity if your camera has a bulb setting. These are extreme shutter speeds and not often used, except by people who shoot fast moving subjects, or in very low light. For most of us, we tend to stick to somewhere in the middle. As a general rule, the faster the shutter speed, the sharper your photo will be. For most people, anything at 1/60 of a second or above is acceptable when hand holding a camera. Lower if you have a particularly steady hand. If you need to use slower shutter speeds, you will need to use a tripod or rest your camera on a steady surface. These slow speeds can be particularly useful for creating blurred effects. For example the flowing water in a waterfall.

Aperture

Ever wondered how photographers get their subjects to really stand out by blurring the background? The secret (which really is no secret) is adjusting the aperture. The aperture changes the depth of field in your photo. Depth of field is how much of the image is in focus. For example, if you have a depth of field of 4 meters, anything within that distance of the subject you are focusing on will also be in focus. There is as much variety with this control as there is with shutter speed. You can choose to set a narrow aperture (long depth of field) when you want the whole shot in focus, for instance a great, sweeping landscape, or a wider aperture for portraits.

Ok, so you've got your shutter speed sorted from your aperture. Now we just have to put them together. Any SLR camera will have an inbuilt light meter. This little gadget measures the amount of light you will need to create a correct exposure. It is usually in the form of a little bar with a too high (+) and a too low (-) sign at each end. It is simply a matter of balancing one against the other so that the meter is centered. Once you've done that you can press the button! That's all there is to it.

ISO

Another choice that will effect your exposure is the ISO you use. With film cameras, this means the speed of film that you use. If you use a 100 speed film, your ISO is 100. Digital cameras also have an adjustable ISO speed. It's just in the form of turning a dial instead of loading a different film. A general rule is to use the lowest ISO you can get away with. Higher ISO films or digital settings can result in noisy (grainy) pictures. They do, however, allow you more freedom in your exposures in that you can shoot with less available light. Experiment with your particular camera, see what you can get away with. Remember that the quality required will be different for everyone. If you only want to make small prints to put in an album, or just store the photos digitally on your computer, then you will not need the same quality as if you want to make large prints to hang on your wall.

So there is some food for thought for those starting out in photography and looking to do more than just point and shoot. Now it's time to go out there and shoot. Experiment with different settings. Try new things. The technical side of photography you can read about anywhere. The creative side, well, that's up to you.

Do you enjoy dressing up? Deep down, we all like to pretend we're someone we're not. This is where all the monsters, superheroes, pirates, and other costumes available come in.

What do you prefer - scaring kids as a creepy ghost or goblin? Leaping tall buildings in a single bound as Superman? Almost any costume you can imagine can be found to rent or buy these days.

With new technology comes better ways of making costumes, and they're getting more and more realistic all the time. The plastic fangs of years gone by have been replaced with much more realistic and creepy versions.

What's your preference this Halloween? A fancy dress costume or something a little more terrifying? I have to say that fancy dress is not my style. A frightening creature of the night is much more up my alley (and a dark and scary alley it is!)

My wife was planning on donning a 12th century dress but with a little encouragement, she agreed to go as a vampiress. Once the makeup was complete, it was amazing. With the fangs and fake blood, she was terrifying kids all night long (in a good way, mind you!)

Ok, there is no doubt Sanjaya Malakar was not the most talented idol contestant, but I really do believe, he was one of the most entertaining. I personally would tune in just to see what his hairstyle would be the current week, and hoping his performances would get better. Millions of viewers will concur with me on his entertainment value, as he survived all the way to the top 7. My question is, could he have gone farther? Did American Idol boot him before his time?

After the top 12 results show , Sanjaya was gaining momentum each and every week. He was not even in the bottom three until he was voted off. Contestants such as Chris Richardson and Phil Stacy were consistently in the bottom three. However, when Sanjaya was voted off, these two were in the top bracket!

Sanjaya had the support of Howard Stern, and his millions of fans. Sure, Stern does not have the audience he used to when he was on terrestrial radio, but he does have approximately five to six million. He urged his fans to vote early and often for the San-Man, and many did. They used any method available to register as many votes as possible for the loveable underdog. This is what may have lead to Sanjaya's demise.

At the end of each American Idol broadcast, read the fine print. It says something to the affect that the producers have the final decision and the rights to disqualify any votes that appear to have been automated or unfair to give one contestant an advantage. Now, some Stern fans have admitted they used fiendish software to cast hundreds if not thousands of votes in one shot for Sanjaya. Were thousands of votes eliminated or disqualified?

Look, sure American Idol lets us, the viewers, vote for the next superstar. However, do you really think they would let the least talented become the next idol? Sanjaya had fans, but he was not the best singer, not by a longshot. In the end, American Idol will do what's best for American Idol.

Farewell Sanjaya. You will not be forgotten for at least another week or so, when your done with the talk show circuit.
